Mombasa,KENYA:More than 60 families of people living with disabilities at the Bombolulu Workshop in Mombasa are in urgent need for help, after their houses were swept away by floods.
This is according to Kelvin Mulaa who is a coach at the workshop, who spoke to Baraka FM and said they are in urgent need of basic needs such as bedding’s and foodstuff.
Mulaa argued the fact that the families have members living with disabilities makes it difficult for them to cope with the situation and warned that if urgent action is not taken, things might get out of hand.
“Their houses are flooded, they have nowhere to sleep, nothing to eat. Yesterday we were forced to carry them out to safety, because most of them are disabled”, said Mulaa.
On Tuesday Mombasa governor Ali Hassan Joho visited the area and promised to help, but Mulaa says up to now they have not received any help.
Nyali MP Aspirant Said Abdalla alias Saido visited the affected area and pledged to help residents.
The families are now living in temporary quarters near the workshop.
Most parts of the Coast region remain affected by the heavy rains that lasted for about a week, and 8 cases of deaths have so far been confirmed in Mombasa Island.
