Intercontinental hotel moves to close its doors in Kenya

Intercontinental hotel one of the five-star hotels in Kenya has announced winding up closing its business in the country for good.

The hotel through its corporation managers has given a 45 days’ notice to declare the position of all workers redundant.

” We write to inform you that InterContinental Hotels Corporation Limited Kenya (IHCL) is for operational reasons, considering a permanent closure of InterContinental Nairobi and winding up its operations in the Republic of Kenya. As a consequence of such intended winding up, all employment positions would become redundant,”  part of the notice sent to staff reads.

“Therefore in line with section 40(1)( b) of the employment act,2017 we hereby give you forty-five days (45)  days’ notice of intention to declare your position redundantly,” the notice continues

It’s believed that one of the main reasons for closure is due to pandemic that has crippled almost all business sectors in the world.

The impact on Kenya’s tourism industry has been crippling with over 15 million Kenyans directly and indirectly affected by the pandemic and loss of business.
