Ex-convict gunned down over links to Likoni machete attack

An ex-convict who police say is the mastermind of the Likoni Machete attack where two people were left with serious injuries has been shot dead.

The ex-convict who has been identified with his alias name Obama was shot dead in the Punguvilla area of Likoni according to the Likoni sub-county police commander Jane Munywoki.

Munywoki said that ‘Obama’ was shot dead after he and an accomplice identified as Abdullahi attempted to attack police offers who had tracked them.

“The other suspect only identified as Abdullahi escaped with gunshot wounds,” Munywoki said.

Two machetes were recovered from the deceased suspect.

Munywoki said Obama was the ring leader of a gang identified as Shranga which is linked to a Saturday attack that saw a 28-year-old woman and a 50-year-old man sustain serious machete wounds.

On Sunday, police arrested four suspects in connection with the attack.

The suspect has been identified as: Steve Jimmy Otieno and Philip Omondi Opiyo both 17 years old who were arrested within ‘Mtaa wa Makka’ area.

Also nabbed was 25-year-old Mabuki Hamadi Hassan and 30-year-old Rama Salim Masito.
