11 rescued after lorry is swept by raging waters in Makueni

11 people have been rescued from River Kwa Muswii at Kasikeu Area in Sultan Hamud, Makueni County after a lorry ferrying un unknown number of people was swept away by raging waters.

The 11 have been taken to Sultan Hamud Sub-County Hospital as rescue efforts by the Kenya Red Cross continue.

Meanwhile, in Kilifi County, 41 people from Malimo to Laini were successfully evacuated by the Red Cross after they were marooned due to the overflowing River Sabaki.

Heavy rainfall to intensify

The heavy rainfall pounding some parts of the country is expected to intensify on Friday and Saturday.

Avoid driving through or walking in moving water or open fields, and do not take any shelter under trees or near grilled windows to minimize exposure to lightning strikes.
