Nairobi, KENYA: Senate committee on Public Accounts and Investment on Wednesday issued summons to IEBC chair Wafula Chebukati and EACC leadership to appear before the committee, to shed light over refusal of Kakamega governor Wycliffe Oparanya to appear before the committee.

Governor Oparanya was set to appear before the committee to shed light on the use of 2013/2014 financial year in his county.

PAIC chair Prof Anyang Nyongo issued the summons after IEBC commission sent a representative who urged the committee to postpone the hearing so that the commission can prepare itself.

Nyong’o wants the two commissions to guide the committee on steps to be taken against Oparanya if he fails to appear before it.

Oparanya has refused to appear before the committee arguing that the accounts executive committee of his county government are tasked to answer accounts queries of the two financial years.

Meanwhile, the director of Public Prosecution Keriako Tobiko has urged parliament to amend the law so that committees can be given mandate to issue warrant of arrest, instead of depending on other institutions .
