Heavy rains alert in the Coast

The Kenya Meteorological (MET) department has issued a heavy rains alert in the coast region.

According to the MET department, counties in the coast region will experience heavy rains of more than 30mm within 24 hours on Wednesday.

The intensity will increase on Thursday with more than 50mm rainfall expected, then decrease again on Friday to 30mm.

Those residing in Kwale, Mombasa, Kilifi, Taita Taveta, Lamu and Tana River, have been urged to be on the lookout for flash floods.

FLASH FLOODS

“Residents in all the mentioned areas are advised to be on the lookout for flash floods. People should avoid driving, wading or walking through any fast moving waters. The heavy rains and strong winds off shore may results in storm along the coast,” part of the notice read.

Nairobi area and Central Highlands, are likely to experience early morning cloudiness that will give way to sunny intervals and in the afternoon showers are expected over a few places.

The long-term forecast also indicated that the onset of the October-November-December (OND) 2018 seasonal rainfall is expected to be timely over most of the country.
