President Kenyatta to open the 5th annual devolution conference

Nairobi,KENYA:President Uhuru Kenyatta is expected to officially open the 5th devolution conference that will be held on 23-27 in Kakamega County this month.

In press briefing on Thursday in Nairobi on the status of planning for the 5th Annual devolution conference, council of Governors Deputy Chair Hon Ann Waiguru, confirmed that the president will be the chief guest in the first day of the conference, where he will be launching the Kenya Devolution Support Program (KDSP) and the Kenya Urban Support Programme (KUSP) on 24TH April 2018.

Waiguru stated that the main reason for the annual devolution conference is to take an approach towards supporting the realization of the president’s Big four agenda that include; Health that focuses on universal health care, Urban Development, Housing infrastructure and Energy with main focus on low cost housing, Agriculture sector on food security and nutrition and Manufacturing.

The deputy chair reiterated that the conference will equally address crosscutting themes on intergovernmental relations, Governance and accountability, Human Resource and Adequate resourcing of county governments which shall be discussed alongside the four chosen sectors.

“As you are aware, the planning of the Annual Devolution Conference has been a joint effort steered by the council of governors, ministry of devolution and ASAL, Senate, the presidency and the county assemblies’ forum. These institutions have given strategic direction, technical and financial support towards the successful planning of the conference,” Said Waiguru.

She also noted that among the guest invited is the Rt Hon. Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga who is expected to join the conference on the second day of 25th April 2018 and deliver a keynote address of the day on good governance.

Deputy president William Ruto, is said to be the chief guest on the last day of the conference where he will give a keynote address and later sit in a panel to answer to several questions and thereafter officially close the conference.
