Only 23 percent vaccinated against COVID-19 in the Coast region

At least 582,266 people have been vaccinated against COVID-19 in the Coast region.

The number is only 23.4 percent of 2,487,849 population targeted for vaccination in the region.

Tana River County has the lowest vaccine intake having only vaccinated 11 percent of the 151,051 government target.

According to data from the Ministry of Health, at 38.4 percent, Taita Taveta has the highest percentage of vaccinated population in the region.

Mombasa follows with 32.5 percent, then Lamu with 21.0 percent.

Kwale and Kilifi Counties have vaccinated 17.0 and 16.6 percent respectively.

29,720 people in the region have gone for their booster doses.

Meanwhile, 55 people tested positive for COVID-19 on Sunday, two of them from Mombasa County.

The 55 were from a sample size of 1,934 tested.

Total confirmed cases in the country now stand at 337,297 from 3,809,076 cumulative tests carried out in the country.

153 patients recovered from the disease pushing recoveries to 330,777. No deaths were reported.

“There are 53 patients currently admitted in our health facilities, while 797 are under the Home-Based Isolation and care program. One patient is in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and is on ventilatory support,” said MoH.

“Another 11 are in the General Wards and are all on supplemental oxygen. No patient is in the High Dependency Unit (HDU),” added MoH.
