NTSA suspends operations for all Modern Coast buses after Nithi accident

The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has suspended operations for all Modern Coast buses following the Sunday accident that has so far claimed 33 lives.

Through a press release, the Authority said that a thorough multi-agency investigation into the Sunday evening crash that saw a Modern Coast bus plunge into River Nithi, claiming the lives of 33 people, is currently underway.

“Following a fatal road traffic crash that occurred on Sunday 24th July, 2022 at the Nithi Bridge, Tharaka Nithi County that has since claimed the lives of 33 passengers, the Authority hereby halts the operations of Modern Coast Express Limited,” said NTSA.

The suspension applies to all 31 vehicles belonging to the company.

The 45 seater Mombasa bound bus, plate number KCF 614U, was coming from Meru.

A statement from Modern Coast bus company said they were still establishing the cause of the accident.
