12 people have died after a bus and a minibus collided head-on along the Mombasa-Malindi Highway.

The Wednesday morning accident involved a Muhsin bus headed to Garissa from Mombasa and a Sabaki shuttle minibus headed to Mombasa.

“I am greatly saddened by the loss of lives of a number of travelers in an accident involving two buses at Kwa Mkikuyu, Msabaha, this morning. Regrettably, accidents have continued to claim precious lives on our roads, despite persistent calls to motorists. We wish a quick recovery to those injured and may the departed souls rest in peace,” said Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi.

Coast traffic police boss Peter Maina confirmed the incident saying the crash took place at Kizingo along the highway.

According to witnesses, the bus was overtaking when it lost control and hit the minibus, killing several including both drivers and injuring several others.
