
Mombasa, KENYA: An 18-year-old suspected gangster wanted by police in connection with criminal activities in Old town neighborhood of Mombasa County has turned himself to police, security agents confirm.
The suspect identified by police as Khalifa Mohammed Ahmed turned himself in the company of his mother Fatma Khalifa Mohammed and a family lawyer arrived at urban police at exactly 11 am,where they were received by urban DCI boss Jacob Kanake.
Police also confirmed that the suspect as had pending cases in court and is among other 16 suspects whose photos had been earlier circulated.
However, the suspect denied being one of the wanted suspects saying he was a computer student in one of the colleges in the city.
He said he received the sad news on Wednesday night when one of his friends called him and broke the news that his in photo was in the list of most wanted criminals.
“On Thursday morning I went to college,everyone was staring at me.My college-mates had distanced themselves from me saying I was a dangerous criminal.I had to go back home as the condition was unbearable,”said Mohammed.
He said his photo was cropped by unknown people and put in the list.Her mother said she was scared after receiving news that her son was in the list of most wanted criminals.
“When I received the news from my friends I decided come here urban police to clean our name”,adding that her son was a good boy and he was not engaging in any criminal activities.
Urban DCI boss Jacob Kanake refuted the claims saying the suspect had two cases pending in court.
“He belongs to dreaded criminal gang of Wakali Wao together with others whose photos are circulating,this one who had surrendered to us had two cases in court,”said Mr Kanake.
The DCI boss called on the others to surrender also before they launch a manhunt.
POLICE UNIFORM
In a police report and photos seen by Barakafm,the suspect is seen with others donning in police uniform and armed with machetes including KDF uniform, it is not known where the photos were taken but it appears to be in a forest.
Mr Kanake said the suspect will be interrogated for more information.
Other suspects are Nordin alias Mbavu Nene,Alwy,Shafi fire alias Shafi ,Choka Mbaya and Mohammed alias Bobocha.
Police source tasked in the investigation of the matter and who requested to remain anonymous told Baraka FM the suspects were recruits of slain terror suspect Ismael Soshi who was gunned down in Kisauni late last year.
All the suspects hails from old town and even known in the area as the notorious gang members.
The suspect Noordin alias Mbavu Nene is said to have escaped Tononoka at children courts in TOctober last year where he had been arraigned after he was arrested over criminal activities.
“Mohammed alias Bobocha was a close ally to terror suspect Ismael Soshi.Police and special elite have stormed his home in old town several times in an attempt to arrest him but it has failed,”said the police source.
