Lamu,KENYA:The number of Alshabaab recruits from Lamu who are being murdered by the militia in Somalia is worrying.
This is according to Linda Boni operations Director James Seriani who said recruits from Lamu are no longer trusted by the militia and are in fact suspected to be government spies.
He said as a result many recruits from Lamu have been killed by the very militia that they went to join.
Seriani said a considerable number of the recruits had been killed between the months of March and April this year alone.
Speaking in Lamu on Sunday,Serian cautioned youth from the county against joining the terror group saying they stood to benefit nothing and that their lives would end if they did.
“We have reports that at least six recruits from Lamu were killed by Alshabaab militia in Somalia after they were suspected of being spies between March and April alone. You can imagine how many face the same fate in a year. For some reason the militia seems not to trust recruits from Lamu and that’s why we are taking this time to also warn youth here against joining the Alshabaab,”said Serian.
Serian termed the ongoing Linda Boni operation as successful and said it had greatly restored peace and calm in the county after the security forces to successfully eliminate Alshabaab elements who were hiding deep within the Boni forest.
He urged locals to continue cooperating with the security agencies in the operation and at the same time attributed the great success of the operation to a committed working relationship between the security agencies and locals .
Seriani added that with the help of the public they had been able to reach the set target in the operation and achieve even more.
“For instance we have been able to seal out all routes that were being used by militants to cross into and hide in Lamu especially in the Boni forest. We have eliminated all terror elements. We can confidently say things are fine again,”said Seriani.
Serian urged returnees who have secretly crept back into the county to voluntarily avail themselves for rehabilitation failure to which they shall be treated like suspects and arrested.
