Nzoia Sugar FC defender Brian Otieno has been named the Kenyan Premier League best defender for the Month of March.

The youngster scooped the accolade after registering an impressive start to the season with Nzoia who earned their promotion after clinching the second division tier last season.

One of his glaring moments during that month includes scoring a brace in his sides’ famous 5-2 smacking of the defending champions Tusker in the opening match of the campaign.

Otieno, aged 21, became the first winner of the award this season walking away a 49 inch LG Smart television and Sh100000 alongside a personalized trophy.

He follows the footsteps of Karim Nzigiyimana of Gor Mahia and Sherif Mohammed of Bandari as the only three defenders to have bagged the gong since its introduction by Sports Journalist Association of Kenya SJAK.

To take home the prize, Otieno saw off competitions from last season’s KPL Most Valuable Player MVP award winner Kenneth Muguna and Geoffrey Walusimbi both of Gor Mahia.
