Mombasa businessman arrested for shooting Gen-Z protesters

Police in Mombasa have arrested a businessman for allegedly shooting two protesters during the Tuesday #Occupycbd protests.

“Following today’s 1:30pm unfortunate shooting at Ganjoni area by a civilian firearm holder and the alleged owner of QAFFEE POINT Hotel thatbleft some persons injured, the said shooter has aince been arrested, disarmed and placed in custody,” read a statement from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations.

The two who were shot are receiving medical aid following swift action from members of public who rushed them to hospital.

The shooting incident led to the torching of five vehicles that were parked outside the hotel.

Meanwhile, the Tuesday demonstrations which started peacefully turned chaotic in Mombasa and other parts of the country after goons infiltrated the protests and robbed bystanders, damaged property and vandalised vehicles.

The alleged goons looted Quickmart supermarket in Mtwapa, a chemist in Mombasa among other businesses.

“DCI teams have been dispatched to pursue gang members recorded by concerned citizens violently robbing innocent Kenyans on the roads, while taking advantage of ongoing demonstrations,” said the DCI.
