At least 274 suspected criminals were arrested during the Tuesday #OccupyCBD protests around the country.
“During today’s demonstrations that saw massive properties destroyed by various criminal elements, security forces across the country singled out suspects found engaging in criminal activities in the guise of protesting, and took them to custody,” read a statement from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations.
According to the statement, 204 suspects were arrested in Nairobi and its environs, 35 in the coastal region, 18 in Nyanza, 11 in Rift Valley, and four in the Eastern region.
“The DCI has deployed scrupulous investigators across the affected regions to pursue suspects captured on CCTV cameras and mobile phone recordings violently robbing, stealing, and destroying properties and businesses of innocent citizens,” read the statement.

The Directorate has called on anyone who might have recorded any criminal activities perpetuated during the protests to forward the footage to DCI offices nationwide.
“Meanwhile, we appeal to property and business owners whose premises are installed with CCTV cameras, and which may have captured criminal activities being perpetuated, to grant access to our Imaging and Acoustic Unit detectives to retrieve the footages in the pursuit of justice to the affected persons,” read the statement.
