24 people have been confirmed dead after landslides hit Tapach and Parua villages of Pokot South and West Pokot respectively.
According to the Pokot governor John Lonyangapuo, confirmed that seven family members were buried alive in Nyarkulian area of Tapach while 17 others were buried in Mwino area of Pokot sub-county after the mudslide engulfed their villages.
However, an alert from the Kenya Red-cross Society who are spearheading the rescue mission says that an unknown number of people had been trapped in their houses.
Pokot county commissioner Apollo Okello said 12 bodies have so far been recovered.
In Pokot central, an unknown number of people are feared dead after a bridge was swept away by heavy rains in Samakali area.
The road connecting Kapenguria and Lodwar has been rendered impassable leaving more than 1000 vehicles grounded.
Heavy rains have pounded most parts of the country since Thursday with the rains being expected to subside on Sunday.
In an alert that was issued on Monday by the Kenya Meteorological department, flooding and landslides are expected to occasion the rains that would exceed 20mm in 24 hours.
On Friday, the Kenya Redcross said that at least 161,238 people have been affected by floods in the country.
