Over 600 fishing groups in the coastal region are set to benefit from sh.1.7 billion grants issued by President William Ruto in Mombasa on Friday.
While addressing the public in Mombasa, President Ruto said the grant would harness and propel fishing activities in the coastal region.
” Fishing is a key component of our Bottom-Up Economic Development Agenda. That is why we are investing in our blue economy to unlock its huge potential. This deliberate plan will generate more than Sh120 billion a year and create employment for thousands of our youth,” said Ruto.
The grants have been issued to 612 groups across Mombasa, Kwale, Kilifi, Lamu, and Tana River counties.
The grant will benefit 19,000 fishermen and women.
