A lion that pounced on a boda boda rider before mauling him to death in Kwale County was neutralized.
This is according to the deputy government spokesperson Ms. Mwanaisha Chidzuga when she spoke to Baraka FM.
The remains of the rider were found in a thicket with his motorcycle left on the road at Marere-Kinango road after being mauled on New year’s eve.
Ms.Chidzuga said Kenya Wildlife service personnel said the lion is no longer a threat to human lives.
“KWS took action and the lion is no longer at Shimba Hills National Reserve. When i say it was taken care off i think you know what i mean”, she said.
The lion is believed to have come from Tsavo national park in neighbouring Taita Taveta County.
She further urged locals to report cases of wildlife attack immediately for action to be taken.
Ms. Chidzuga dissuaded Kenyans from waiting until there is barely proof of animal attack and destruction to report.
” If a wild animal for example destroys your crops, kindly inform KWS officers to come and gather evidence before compensation process kicks in. Don’t wait until its too late”, she added.
