Goods stolen while in transit from Mombasa port recovered in Nairobi

Police have arrested a suspect Francis Victor Karua Gathii and recovered a consignment of goods worth sh.10 million that were stolen while in transit from Mombasa.

The assortment of cooking appliances that were stolen while in transit to Malindi from the Port of Mombasa were recovered in Nairobi’s Saika area by a joint team of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives drawn from Nairobi and Kilindini.

The container with the goods worth over sh.10 Million is suspected to have been diverted by the driver who in collaboration with others failed to deliver the goods to the intended recipient, claiming that the truck had developed mechanical problems at Kikambala, along the busy Mombasa-Malindi highway.

“It is after the consignee made a report at Kilindini Police Station when investigations regarding the disappearance commenced, leading to the recovery of the shipment in Saika off Kangundo road,” said the DCI.

The suspect in custody assisting detectives with investigations.
