At least five students died after the matatu they were traveling in was involved in an accident along the Naivasha-Nakuru Highway.
The Nairobi-bound matatu collided with a lorry near Delamere estates in Naivasha, Nakuru County.
Confirming the incident, Sub-County Police Commander Emmanuel Bowen said seven others were injured.
Meanwhile, Kenyans are calling on the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) and the Transport Ministry to step up and reign in on matatu saccos following the accidents which seem to be on the rise.
NTSA records show that at least 974 people have died in road accidents between 1st of January and 20th of March this year.
According to the Authority, the number marked a 4.6 percent reduction in road fatalities compared to the same period in 2022.
Data from the Authority shows that most fatalities, at 330, were of pedestrians followed by motorcyclists at 265 then passengers at 171.
