Lamu East Member of Parliament Captain Ruweida Obo has urged the National government to beef up security at Mama Ngina Waterfront recreational facility in order to attract tourists.
The lawmaker who also doubles as a member of the Parliamentary Departmental Committee of Tourism and Wildlife claimed that visitors are normally harassed in the tourist attraction facility.
She noted, “some people have been minting money from this recreation facility. Some of the people visiting like our fellow Muslims are asked to produce their marriage certificate.”
The legislator also called on the government to beef up security in the area.
She further indicated that the committee is looking at ways of solving the impasse between the county government and the national government.
Obbo noted that the facility is currently under the national government.
“As a committee, we aim to ensure that public money is not misappropriated,” said the MP.
