Mombasa politician and businessman Suleiman Shahbal has been nominated by the Orange Democratic Movement to serve as a member of the East Africa Legislative Assembly (EALA).
Shahbal was among six people nominated to serve as members of EALA by ODM party.
“I take this opportunity to extend my heartfelt gratitude to the ODM Party and my party leader Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga for nominating me for election to the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA),” wrote Shahbal on his social media platforms.
The list was officially released by ODM on Wednesday morning following a selection process chaired by former Kakamega governor Wycliffe Oparanya.
“My sincere appreciation also goes out to the ODM Selection Committee for finding me fit and forwarding my name for consideration in the fifth session of the noble August House,” said Shahbal.
Others nominated by ODM to serve as members of EALA are Winnie Odinga, Mohammed Diriye, Timothy Bosire, Justus Kizito and Beatrice Askul.
“I look forward to the support of both members of the National Assembly and the Senate as I pray to get a chance to contribute towards the economic transformation of the East African Region and make progressive and competitive strides toward negotiations with the rest of the world,” he said.
