Kenyan diver Maureen Anyango Atieno is seeking financial assistance to get to the 2022 World Lifesaving Championships in Italy.

Speaking to Baraka FM on Wednesday, Maureen said she had been looking for sponsorships to attend the international event which kicked off on Tuesday 20th September.

“I have been looking for sponsorship for the last two months but have not been successful yet,” said Maureen.

A letter dated 16th July, 2022, from the International Lifesaving Federation and signed by the Federation’s Secretary General Dr Herald Vervaecke said Maureen had been appointed as an official in the Championships.

“This is to confirm that Ms Maureen Anyango, a member of the Kenyan Lifesaving Federation, has been appointed as a Technical Official to officiate at the 2022 Lifesaving World Championships to be held in Riccione, Italy, from 20th September 2022 to 2nd October, 2022,” read the letter from ILS.

The letter also confirmed that no financial support was given to ‘Technical Officials’ from the International Lifesaving Federation or the host organisation.

“I am seeking help from the Mombasa County government and any other well wishers to help me get an airticket to fly to Italy for the Championships which started yesterday,” said Maureen.

Maureen has been appointed to officiate in a pool that will kick off on the 27th of September.

“Maureen has been appointed to the National Team Championships: Pool: 27th September to 2nd October: Technical Official,” read the letter from ILS.

Maureen hails from Likoni sub-county and helps in rescue missions when there are incidents of drowning.

“When we do any disaster rescue missions, it is always voluntary,” added Maureen.
