The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission-IEBC has pushed the deadline for political parties and coalitions to submit names of their running mates to 16th May 2022.
Azimio-One Kenya Alliance had petitioned IEBC to extend the deadline following the death of former President Mwai Kibaki. All parties were to submit the names by 28th April 2022.
Speaking after meeting political parties representatives in Nairobi, IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati said the new deadline will now be 16th May, 2022.
He also directed the political parties to forward the names of their running mates to chapter six institutions.
” Presidential candindates, their deputies and Gubernatorial candidates and deputies will be on the 16th May which is next month”, he stated.
He also urged aspirants to comply with the third gender rule during their nominations of deputies.
