Police seize 30,000 litres of illegal Ethanol in Taveta

Police have seized an illegal shipment of 30,000 litres of ethanol used to make illegal liqour in  Mwaktau area,​​Taita Taveta County.

Taveta area police commander Charles Barasa said the chemical had been placed in 120 250-litre drums and covered with sacks of maize and rice.

Police are searching for the driver of the truck carrying the cargo who escaped.

“The owner of the truck will be arrested while the investigation continues to search for owner of the cargo”, he said.

Barasa also said  police have intensified patrols on the Taveta and Holili border to prevent the importation of illegal goods from neighbouring Tanzania.
