Former Minister Joe Nyagah is dead

Renowned politician and former cabinet Minister Joseph Nyaga is dead.

According to reports, Nyaga succumbed to COVID-19 at a city hospital where he was undergoing treatment.

Nyaga, a 72-year-old served as a cabinet minister during Moi’s and subsequent  Kibaki’s regime.

He was a member of the Orange Democratic Movement’s ‘Pentagon’ during the 2007 general elections.

He was the son of the late Jeremiah Nyaga, a freedom fighter who served in the cabinets of presidents Jomo Kenyatta and Daniel Moi’s rule.

His younger brother Norman Nyaga served as MP for Kamukunji constituency in Nairobi and a chief whip in the National Assembly.

Nyaga was  Co-operative Development minister in the former grand coalition government after the 2007 polls.

In 2017, he resigned as President Uhuru Kenyatta’s adviser to launch his presidential bid as an independent candidate.

He also served as MP for Gachoka which is now Mbeere South.
