Kilifi County records highest new COVID-19 infections in the Coast

Kilifi recorded 61 new COVID-19 infections, making it the county with highest new infections in the coastal region.

Mombasa registered the second highest new infections with 32 cases.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Health, Taita Taveta recorded four new infections while Kwale recorded two new cases.

In Mombasa, Mvita Sub-County had 18 new infections, Jomvu 5, Kisauni and Nyali three each, Likoni two, and Changamwe one case.

Meanwhile, country numbers rose to 90,978 after 673 more people tested positive for the virus.

The new infections were from a sample of 8,230 tested in the last 24 hours, bringing cumulative tests 960,978.

From the cases 645 are Kenyans and 28 foreigners.

According to CS Kagwe, 14 patients succumbed to COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, cumulative fatalities hitting 1,582.

325 patients recovered from the disease, 258 from home-based care while 67 were from various hospitals, bringing total recoveries to 71,579.

992 patients are admitted in various health facilities country wide and 7,887 on home-based isolation and care.

45 patients are in intensive care unit, 26 of whom are on ventillatory support and 18 on supplemental oxygen.

Eight are on high dependency unit .
