198 test positive for COVID-19 in Mombasa as country numbers surpass 60,000

198 people have tested positive for Coronavirus in Mombasa.

In a statement, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said 1,109 people tested positive for Coronavirus countrywide, bringing the total number of those who have tested positive to 60,704.

The new infections are from a sample of 7,153 tested, bringing national cumulative tests to 730,363.

The 198 cases from Mombasa are from; Mvita 63, Nyali 52, Kisauni 31, Jomvu 25, Likoni 15 and Changamwe 12.

TaitaTaveta recorded one case, Kwale seven; four from Lunga Lunga and three from Mswambweni. Kilifi recorded 28 cases.

Nairobi recorded the highest number of new infections nationally with 347 cases, Nakuru had 73, and Uasin Gishu 69.

21 people lost their lives bringing the total number of COVID-19 fatalities to 1,093.

938 patients have recovered from the disease, 856 from the Home-Based Care Program, while 82 have been discharged from various hospitals. Total recoveries now stand at 40,131.

1,300 patients are currently admitted while 5,439 are in the home-based care system while 60 patients are in the ICU, said the statement.
