The parliamentary health committee sent away, Health Chief Administrative Secretary Mercy Mwangangi after Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe failed to appear before the committee.
Acting Chair of Parliamentary Health Committee Martin Owino, who is also Ndhiwa Member of Parliament, said that the committee unanimously resolved to send Mwangangi away, complaining that the Cabinet Secretary has been failing to appear before the committee several times.
“We will adjourn. We have some issues on COVID-19 and the path we are taking,” Owino said.
Mwangangi appeared before the committee to represent the cabinet secretary over health matters.
“This ministry is not taking this committee seriously, we will send this team away, we need to see the CS” Owino said.
However, Mwangangi pointed out that she was duly obliged to appear before the committee following the fact that the CS was on a special assignment in Mombasa but her assertion was downplayed by the committee members.
Kagwe was reportedly in Malindi sub-county hospital, accompanied by Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi and Italian ambassador to Kenya Albert Pieri.
The meeting was rescheduled to next week.
