Coast region COVID-19 tally hits 50

The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the region has hit the 50 mark making it the region with the second-highest number of infections after Nairobi County.

This is after four more cases were confirmed in Mombasa County pushing the number to 39, the highest in the region.

Kilifi County follows at 10 cases while Kwale County just has one confirmed case.

Nine more cases have been recorded in the country pushing up the number of infected people in the country to 225.

“Four of those who have been confirmed positive are in Mombasa while five are from Nairobi county,” Health CS Mutahi Kagwe says.

12 more people have recovered from the virus bringing to 53 the number of recoveries while one more person has succumbed to the virus.

This brings to 10 the number of deaths recorded in the country.

This comes just a day after the ministry announced that more than 1000 testing kits would be dispatched to the port of Mombasa to commence the mass testing exercise.

So far seven KPA employees have tested positive with two of them having succumbed to the virus over the past two weeks.
