A somber mood has engulfed Consolata area of Likoni after two family members drowned in a borehole in the area.
The two who have been identified as Diyo Mwachiro and his nephew Dzomo Nyamawi had been contracted to clean the borehole on Wednesday when they went missing and their phones went off.

According to Hamisi Mwachiro, a family member, family members started getting worried after the two men failed to emerge from the borehole.
“ I was called and told the two were missing and when I tried calling them, no one was picking,” Mwachiro said.

A large crowd gathered in the area when the partly decomposed bodies of the two were retrieved by officers from the Mombasa county fire and rescue services department.
According to the Likoni OCPD Jane Munywoki, police suspect the two must have died from suffocation in the borehole.
Their bodies are currently at the Coast Provincial General Hospital awaiting an autopsy.
