Kilifi, KENYA: A man was on Wednesday morning found dead in an open dry borehole in Mtomondoni area in the outskirts of Mtwapa.
Residents in the area woke up to shock upon learning that the body of Isaack Karisa who had gone missing for some days, was in the uncovered 90 feet water-less borehole slightly outside his homestead.
Philip Muye, a brother to the deceased told Baraka FM that the late Karisa had been acting strange; having hallucinations of certain people chasing him with machetes, with the aim of killing him.
“My elder brother would be heard talking to himself saying he is seeing strange people running after him with machetes to kill him before he went missing two days prior to his demise,” said Muye.
Muye said after having long discussions with the family over his disappearance, the family under the instruction from their mother Mariam Shadrack, resolved to do a manhunt for the deceased.
Benjamin Mwachai a relative to the deceased was the first to stumble upon the body of the late Karisa when he had gone to the borehole in the morning hours of Wednesday;where he normally sharpens his panga.
“I thereby immediately raised alarm, by informing the family members, relatives and neighbors about the incident before proceeding to report to police station at Mtwapa Police Station,” Said Mwachai.
Mwachai added that he informed the village elder Nicholas Kashuru, who also called the police to inform them of the incident.
“It took the police two hours to arrive at the scene to collect the body,” added Mwachai.
Kilifi OCPD Alexander Makau confirmed the incident.
The body of the deceased was taken to Jocham Hospital Mortuary for preservation pending postmortem; to ascertain the actual cause of the death.
