Olunga to battle it out with Kipchoge in 2019 SOYA Awards

Football star Michael Olunga is set to battle it out with World marathon record holder Eliud Kipchoge during the Safaricom SOYA Awards set for the 24th of January this year, in Mombasa.

Olunga, who plays for Japanese side ‘Kashiwa Reysol’, and Kipchoge, who holds the World record in the marathon at 2:01:39, set on 16th September 2018, at the 2018 Berlin Marathon, have also been pitted against Geoffrey Kamworor, Conseslus Kipruto and Timothy Cheruiyot for the ‘Sportsman of the year’ award.

In the Sports woman of the year category, Body Builder Evelyn Okinyi Owala will be battling it out with Athletes Beatrice Chepkoech, Hellen Obiri, Ruth Chepngetich and Brigid Kosgei for the title.

Coaches Alex Alumirah of Vihiga Queens (Football); Carey Odhiambo of Morans (Basketball); David Ouma of Harambee Starlets (Football); Curtis Olago of KCB RFC (Rugby) and Paul Bitok of Malkia Strikers (Volleyball) will be facing off for the ‘Coach of the Year’ award.

Gor Mahia football club will face their counterparts Bandari Fc, Basketball team kenya Morans, KCB RFC and kenya Beach Team for the ‘Sports team of the year Men’ category.

Malkia strikers will take on KPA women’s basketball team, Vihiga Queens, Kenya Lionesses and Harambe Starlets for the ‘Sports team of the Year Women’ category. Other categories include ‘Most Promising, both men and women category, ‘Federation of the Year; and ‘Community Hero’.
