Police shoot machete wielding suspected gangster in Bamburi

A man believed to be a member of a gang that has been terrorizing residents of Kisauni and Nyali sub counties in Mombasa has been shot dead hours after three students were attacked by suspected members of the dreaded Wakali Kwanza gang in Kisauni sub-county.

According to the Kisauni OCPD Julias Kireu,the suspect was shot dead as he tried to attack police officers with a machete.

Kireu added that the suspect was among a group of five who they suspect had carried out different criminal activities in the sub-counties.

“We got information from a resident that a group of ten members were armed and terrorizing residents in different parts of Kisauni on Tuesday night. When they were requested to surrender they tried to attack police officers with matchetes but we managed to kill one and the other four escaped with gun injuries “said Kireu.

Kireu said the suspects were walking along the Bamburi Mtambo junction when police accosted them.

Police managed to recover three machetes and a knife and during the operation.

An operation to smoke out the suspects who escaped with gunshot injuries has been launched in the two sub counties.

The body of the suspect is lying at Coast  Provincial General Hospital mortuary awaiting identification and a post mortem.

The suspect was killed few hours after three students from the Technical university of Mombasa were injured in an attack in Kadongo area of Mishomoroni in neighboring Kisauni sub-county.

Three hospitalized as Kisauni gangs strike again

Kireu has said that police believe that the deceased was among the group that attacked the University students.

One of the students is still nursing injuries while the rest were treated and discharged.

Kireu said the students were rushed to hospital by good Samaritans and they are yet to record statements with police following the incident.

Kireu had also confirmed a separate incident where a man sustained head injuries after the same gang attacked him with a machete in Kisauni sub-county.

“They attacked another man few minutes after they have attacked the students and he has already recorded a statement, he has told us he knows the people who attacked him and he will help police to identify the suspects “said Kireu.
