Three students are currently recuperating at the Coast Provincial General Hospital following an attack by suspected members of the dreaded Wakali Kwanza gang in Kisauni sub-county.

The three who are all students at the Technical University of Mombasa were attacked on Tuesday evening at Kadogo area of Mishomoroni.

According to the Coastal Organization Students Association (COSA) chair Edwin Shamir, one of the students identified as Edwin Munene is currently fighting for his life at the Intensive care Unit of the hospital.

“ The incident happened at 10.00 pm in Kadongo area” Shamir told Baraka FM.

The attack has ignited anger among students who are set to hold peaceful protests in Wednesday to protest against increasing attacks on students by the dreaded gangs.

In May, a fourth year medical student at the same institution succumbed to knife injuries at the Coast Provincial general hospital following an attack in Soko Mjinga area of Kisauni suspected to have been perpetrated by the gangs while in October last year, Samuel Odemba, a fourth year University of Nairobi law student and his cousin were killed after a night out following an attack by a vigilante group in  Mtopanga area of Kisauni .

Trouble for the two started after the vigilante group members found them trying to start a motorbike which they had mistaken to be theirs.

Last week, coast regional coordinator John Elungata said that an elite team had been formed precisely to deal with the criminal gangs ahead of the festive season.
