Two guarantors in the defilement case facing former Kilifi county protocol officer John Kazungu have moved to court seeking to withdraw the sureties.

This is after he failed to appear in court for the hearings in his case.

The two Daniel Charo and Hamisi Chirikwa Mwachonje have called on the court to allow them to cease being guarantors arguing that the accused had failed to honour court appearances.

The two guarantors said they had provided their title deeds to bail him out.

Kazungu appeared before Kilifi resident magistrate Robinson Ondiek, last year where he denied the charges and was released on a bond of sh. 100,000 with a surety of a similar amount.

Kazungu who was arrested last week is currently in custody awaiting a ruling on whether the court would allow his guarantors to withdraw.

A ruling on the matter is expected to be delivered on the 9th of July.
