Samantha, Avicii and Maribe most trending searches in 2018

Samantha, Avicii, Jacque Maribe and Black panther were among the top trending Google searches in the country in 2018.

Google just released the ‘Year in Search’ results on Monday and the top ten trending topics this year included key personalities, films and even events like the 2018 World cup.

The top trending topic was World Cup 2018 followed by slain University student Sharon Otieno.

Miguna Miguna made it to the list at number three following his deportation earlier this year, with the recently released KCPE results taking the fourth position due to the speed at which the exams were marked and results released.

Samantha, the doll was sixth in the top trending topics. The dolls were among multi-billion-shilling contraband goods that President Uhuru Kenyatta set on fire three months ago.

Others that made it to the top ten list include Alexis Sanchez and Rose Muhando.

Trending Events

In terms of events, the topics that trended most this year were; Raila Swearing-in at number two, the lunar eclipse, lecturers strike, Royal wedding, 2018 KDF recruitment exercise that is yet to be concluded, Migori by-election, Zimbabwe elections among others.

“How to” and “What is?”

Seems like Kenyans really don’t want problems with Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) as “how to file nil returns” and “how to file KRA returns” both made it to the top trending topics.

How to check KCPE results, write an application letter, make money online, lose weight faster and how to get pregnant are just among the few topics that took you to Google.

In the “what is?” section, the search questions mostly revolved around events that had been happening in the country with “what is blue economy?” being among the top questions.

What is Lunar eclipse, riparian land, communication, ovulation, management, Samantha, bitcoin and what is sex were also trending queries in 2018.
