Mombasa, KENYA: Three Chinese nationals arrested on Friday at the Mombasa SGR station were on Monday arraigned at the Mombasa Law court.

The three identified as Li Gen, Li Xiaowu and Sun Xin were arraigned before magistrate Julius Nang’ea to plead their case.

The trio is accused of giving a bribe of sh. 500,000 to Inspector Andrew Warui and his team of investigators who were investigating claims of fraud in the ticketing department at the Standard Gauge Railway that is said to have defrauded the company millions.

The three who work for the China Roads and Bridge Corporation(CRBC) at the Standard Gauge Railway in station in Miritini Mombasa have pleaded not guilty before Mombasa Chief Magistrate Julius Nang’eya for various counts of bribery.

The defendants’ advocate who wants the suspects released on bail said that there is no proof of a witness or records of an occurrence book to affirm the allegations, however, the plaintiff’s side opposed the application saying that granting them bond would deny the court and people a fair hearing.

The three have been detained at Port police station pending their bail ruling which has been set for 30th November.
