Nairobi, KENYA: TV presenter Jacque Maribe will be remanded at Lang’ata women’s prison until Monday.

High Court Judge Jessie Lessit also ordered that the Citizen TV news anchor, who was arrested in connection with the murder of 28-year-old Monica Kimani, undergo a mental assesment test at Mathare Hospital before being charged.

Meanwhile her fiancé Joseph Maina Irungu will be remanded at Industrial Area prison, also until Monday.

Lessit also ordered Irungu to get treatment after his lawyer Cliff Ombeta told the court that his client was yet to receive treatment on his gunshot wound.

According to a neighbor and mutual friend of Maribe and Irungu, Brian Kassaine, Irungu allegedly shot himself after a fight with Maribe.

This comes just after the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Noordin Haji directed that Maribe and her fiance Irungu alias Jowie be charged with murder.

In a statement, the DPP said “I have independently the reviewed the evidence so far on record and am satisfied that there exists a prima facie case to warrant criminal prosecution against the following individuals, for the offense Murder contrary to section 203 as read with section 204 of the Penal Code.”

Maribe was arrested on the 29th of September and presented to the court on the 1st of October.

The two, Maribe and Irungu were arraigned in court on Tuesday morning.
