Manda bay, Diani beach among winners in ‘Tourism Oscars’

Mombasa, KENYA: Manda Bay and Diani beach are among the destinations that flew the Kenyan flag high during the recently completed African leg of the World Tourism Awards popularly known as the ‘Tourism Oscars’.

The ceremony that was held in Durban in South Africa saw Kenya bag 17 awards slightly behind South Africa which bagged 21 awards the highest number in Africa.

Manda Bay in Lamu scooped Africa’s leading Private Island resort while Diani beach scooped Africa’s leading beach destination resort.

Diani beach resort and spa scooped Africa’s leading beach resort while Leopard beach resort scooped Africa’s leading tourist resort.

Kenya Airways scooped best leading Airline in both economy and business class while tours company Bonfire adventures scooped Africa’s leading travel agency.

The Masaai Mara national reserve scooped Africa’s leading national park while the Olpejeta conservancy won Africa’s leading conservancy.

Destination Kenya won Africa’s leading destination company while the Fairmont Mount Kenya safari club won Africa’s leading hotel.

The Aberdare country club won Africa’s leading green hotel while the Villa Rosa Kempinski Nairobi won  Africa’s leading luxury hotel and its sister Olare Mara Kempinski won the best tented African camp.

Other winners include the Palacina hotel and suites which won Africa’s leading hotel residences.

The ceremony marked the 6th leg of the WTA grand tour 2018 that has seen winners emerge from regions such as Europe, Indian Ocean, North America, Central America, South America, Australia Asia, and the Middle East.

The Winners will proceed to the WTA grand finale slated for the 1st of December in Lisbon Portugal.
