Woman dies on the spot after being hit by matatu in Likoni

Mombasa, KENYA: A 25-year-old woman on Monday died on the spot after she was hit by a Matatu in Mtongwe area within Likoni Sub County.

Speaking to Baraka FM on phone, Likoni OCPD Benjamin Rotich, said that the deceased was walking along the Kenya Navy-Likoni road when she was run over by the oncoming Matatu.

Police who have launched a probe into the incident have detained the Matatu driver John Karanja.

Rotich added that police had detained the vehicle.

‘We are inspecting the Matatu which caused the accident ” Rotich told Baraka FM.

Police say the driver of the matatu is expected to be charged with causing death by dangerous driving once investigations into the matter are complete.

The body of the deceased woman who is yet to be identified has been taken to the Coast Provincial General Hospital mortuary.
