Speaker of the National Assembly Justin Muturi has congratulated Baraka FM team for a job well done at the 2018 Annual Journalism Excellence Awards (AJEA) held on Friday.

Speaking while gracing the Gala Dinner in Nairobi on Friday evening, Muturi applauded journalists who won on different categories including health, media freedom, gender and good governance telling them to always uphold the rights of every Kenyan as they execute their mandate in the journalism career.

Baraka FM won the Gender reporting, Health and Media freedom categories through Oscar Nyoha, Brian Osweta and Weldon Kemboi respectively.

“I am delighted to join you in the event of recognizing excellence in journalists tonight, where I am informed you will be appreciated in doing exemplary work in the media,” Muturi said.

Baraka FM did not only emerge as an exemplary radio station but also a trustworthy source of information as it managed to get 8 finalists in the competition with 3 managing to win in their respective categories.

Janet Murikira was a finalist in the Good Governance and Media Freedom Categories.

The stations command on health reporting was vivid as Brian Osweta took the award with all finalists, George Otieno and Joseph Jira being solely from Baraka FM.

It was a replica of the health category in the media freedom category as both the winner and finalists were from Baraka.

He downplayed assertions that parliament is summoning journalists to appear before Powers and privileges house committee for exposing graft in the legislature.

He clarified that the scheduled meeting which is due on 14th this month will encompass media players and parliament as a combined effort seeking ways of fighting graft .
