Kilifi,KENYA:You’ll soon be able to read your favorite Bible verses in Giriama following a fundraising held at the Karisa Maitha grounds in Kilifi to facilitate the publication of the first Giriama Bible.

Present in the ceremony was Deputy President William Ruto who gave a sh1.5m donation towards the cause.

The President said the translating the Bible was key in allowing people to better understand the message portrayed in the Bible.

“Nelson Mandela said ‘If you speak to a person in the language he understands, it goes to his head, but if you speak it to a man in his own language it goes to his heart’,” quoted the DP.

“I’m happy that I’ll be part of history. That when the Bible was translated into the Giriama language, I was part and parcel of those who made it happen,” added Ruto.

Also present was Kilifi Governor Amason kingi who gave a sh250k donation and Kilifi North Member of Parliament Owen Baya who gave a sh100k donation.

Malindi Member of Parliament who also accompanied the DP gave a sh100k in the fundraising.

The Giriama Bible has been a dream for the Mijikenda group which started 24 years ago.

Giriama elders started campaign for the translation of the Bible into Giriama in 1994 but faced several challenges including lack of funds.

Seems as there’s light at the end of the tunnel for the Giriama people who have been waiting for the Bible.
