Nairobi, KENYA: Gor Mahia boost its chances of advancing to the last eight of the CAF Confederation cup matches by thumping limping Yanga of Tanzania 4-0 in the third round of the group matches staged at Kasarani stadium on Wednesday.

Goals from Jacques Tuyisenge and Ephrem Guikan and an own goal from the visitors saw K’ogalo register its first win to go second in the group with five points after two draws in the previous matches.

Yanga who superstitiously refused to use the hotel that was set aside for them by Gor Mahia when they landed in the country on Monday will now have to win all the remaining three matches to qualify for the quarterfinals.

Elsewhere, USM Alger of Algeria extended their lead at the summit by coming from behind to condemn Rwandan outfit Rayon Sport 2-1 in Kigali.

USM Alger is now on seven points, two better than second-placed Gor Mahia while Rayon Sport sits third with two points as Yanga languishes at the bottom with a paltry one point after three rounds of matches.
