Two die as five storey building collapses in Huruma ,rescue operations ongoing

Nairobi, KENYA: Huruma residents woke up to shock after a 5 storey house collapsed leaving 2 dead as per 8.35 am and 4 others rushed to different hospitals.

According to the acting Director for National disaster management unit NDMU Pius Masai, the building at Huruma Ngei near CDF collapsed at around 1.30am on Sunday whereby, 4 were rescued alive and 1 died on the way to hospital and one recovered dead.

Accessibility has been reported to be the main challenge for the machinery equipment to access, forcing multi-stakeholders to knock down one side of temporary residential structure in order to create access for rescue.

Already National Police Service, Nairobi County Fire, Kenya Red Cross, Medics San Frontier among other stakeholders are already at the scene.

The Kenya Defence Forces Disaster Response Unit, National Youth Service and others are on the way to the scene.

Members of the public have been urged to cooperate with the relevant agencies to allow smooth operations at the scene.
