Taita Taveta, KENYA: A Taveta court prosecutor was on Thursday seized by sleuths from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission over allegations of receiving a bribe.
The prosecutor Donald Otieno allegedly received a sh 30,000 bribe which was in form of a cheque from a suspect accused of selling unlicensed liquor.
Mr. Otieno had allegedly promised to impose a lesser fine on the suspect who had imported the liquor from Tanzania.
The office of the Director of Public Prosecutions who confirmed the incident said they would take action once investigations into the matter are completed.
“ The DPP is aware that EACC Kenya operations at the Taita Taveta court which led to the arrest of a prosecutor on allegations of graft/ bribery. The DPP will take the necessary legal action once investigations are completed.” The office of the DPP said.
This comes just as the director of criminal investigations is investigating claims of financial Impropriety at the office of the DPP.
