Zidane steps down as Real Madrid manager

Madrid, SPAIN: Zinedine Zidane has announced he is stepping down as Real Madrid manager barely a week after guiding the Spanish club to its third Champions League title in a row.

In a press conference Zidane expressed asserted he is pleased with his decision to leave Madrid despite having had a successful sting in his three years at Santiago Bernabeu.

Zidane, 45, took over after Rafael Benitez was sacked and was in charge for 149 games. He steered Madrid to 104 wins and 29 draws, had 69.8% win rate, and won nine trophies.

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is expected to announce who will succeed Zidane in the coming weeks with Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino who signed a new five-year-contract with Spurs favorite.
