University of Nairobi closed down indefinitely

Nairobi,KENYA:The University of Nairobi  has been closed down indefinitely.

According to a statement from the management, the University was closed down due to deteriorating security situation at the university and the students had been asked to leave the institution not later than 9.00 am on Tuesday.

“Senate has today closed the University with immediate effect due to the deteriorating security situation,” Reads one of the tweets.

“Students have been asked to vacate the halls of residence with immediate effect but not later than 9.00am,” Reads another of the tweets.

Last week , 27 students were injured when GSU officers raided the institution attacking students in the halls of residence.

The students had earlier held protests to protest the detention of their former SONU chairperson Babu Owino.

The Independent Policing Oversight Authority and the Kenya National Commission on Human rights have said that they are investigating the matter.
