
Mombasa,KENYA:The Director of Public Prosecution Keriako Tobiko has withdrawn the charges against two sons of slain drug baron Ibrahim Akasha and a foreigner.
Baktash Akasha, Ibrahim Akasha, Abdulsalam Akasha and Vijaygir Goswami had in January been charged with the offence of affray, they had denied the charges and released on a cash bail each of Sh.20, 000.
The three allegedly involved themselves in a gun fight with Mombasa tycoon Ali Punjani at the Rahjan Bar and Restaurant in the Kisauni neighborhood of Mombasa county .
Senior prosecutor Mr. Alexendar Muteti on Thursday told court, the prosecution will amend the charges against Abdulsalam Akasha and Ali Punjani.
‘Your honor I have been directed to withdraw the charges against the first, second and the fourth accused persons under section 87 (a) ‘Muteti said.
Baktash, Ibrahim, Goswami and Gulam Hussein, are facing charges of trafficking Sh 1 billion worth of heroin in US.
They are alleged to be part of international drug trafficking ring.
Speaking to Baraka Fm, Cliff Ombeta, the lawyer to the suspects in drug case said the trial against his clients is set for hearing on 27th April,2017 in US.
Mr Ombeta also said the suspects were represented by Daniel Arshak a counsel from the US.
