Govt releases sh. 20M for construction of buildings destroyed by al shabaab

Lamu, KENYA: The national government has released Sh.20 Million for the construction of buildings and other amenities destroyed during Alshabaab attacks in the Linda Boni Operation zones in Lamu county.

Speaking in Lamu on Saturday, Linda Boni Director James Serian confirmed receiving the money and pledged that the money will go into reconstructing schools and dispensaries that were torched by militants among other projects.

Serian said Sh.2 milion will be used to reconstruct a classroom that was burnt down by al shabaab militants in Pandanguo village in July 2014.

The operation director said another Sh.3 Million will go into reconstruction of yet another classroom that faced a similar fate at Mangai boarding primary school in August 2015 including purchase of seats and over 100 mattresses that were also burnt during the incident.

“We are also in talks with the residents of Mangai to see to it that we set up a new dispensary for them after the other one was vandalized and torched.we also plan to set up a new dispensary in Basuba village.all the new dispensaries will be fully equipped upon completion so that they can start being used as soon as possible,”said Serian.

Serian said all activities surrounding the money shall kick off in the next two weeks and shall hopefully be completed in three months time and be ready for use.

The Linda Boni director James Serian also commended Boni residents in the operation areas for their continued cooperation with the security agencies conducting the operation that has subsequently led to the success of the operation.
